The SHIFT hires many students to assist in the management, routine operation, and project development phases. These opportunities allow students to network with staff and faculty, learn technical information, and gain valuable experience relevant to nearly any career path. There are two main positions for students within SHIFT:
Adminstrative & Program Support
These assistants are responsible for a wide range of tasks relating to administrative & program support. Tasks can include (but are not limited to): website design, file organization, project management, final reports, public outreach, event planning, and committee meeting attendance. Students in this role commit to at least a one-year term with a potential of renewing the position.
Project Researcher
Project Researchers are students that are hired to conduct feasibility studies on previously submitted grant proposals that the committee requested more information on before implementation. These appointments typically range from one to two semesters, and are available upon committee discretion.

Description
HEIF is hiring students that will participate on development teams for Fall 2018 and possibly continuing through Spring 2019. Development teams are responsible for writing proposals associated with energy efficiency or other sustainability projects on campus that have been brought forth by students. Development teams generally range from 1-4 students per team and HEIF usually hosts between 2-5 projects per semester. Development teams are expected to take a high-level concept idea as submitted by another student and research all the elements of the project that will inform a “feasibility study” or “schematic design”. This generally entails developing a scope of work for the project, estimating budget, evaluating outreach elements, and calculating energy or other natural resource impacts to the campus. Students gain experience by working with professional mentors and other technical experts at Facilities Management on campus. Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work within deadlines with little direct supervision. The projects for which HEIF is seeking Development team members during Fall 2018 include a solar array feasibility study, exploration of a mini-split heat pump for CCAT, a comparative case study for heating systems at Jenkins Hall including heat pumps, product evaluation for covering the Earth Tub Composter, and a lighting retrofit at the Field House.
